It’s Official
The delicious smell of the cakes warming in the oven filled the kitchen. Martha Boggins, the Remmington’s cook, hummed to herself as she put the tea tray together for Mr. Remmington and his guest. She loved to cook; it was her passion in life. But what she loved even more than preparing the food was watching the delighted faces of the people who had just sampled her creations. When she was in the kitchen cooking, Martha was in an unbreakable good mood. She believed that there wasn’t anything that some good food couldn’t fix.

As she was pouring the freshly brewed tea into the mugs, Martha heard the angry footsteps of the household maid Hester Wendell, behind her. She spun around to face Hester and gave her a big, cheery grin knowing full well that Hester despised all things cheery. There was one thing that she loved more than cooking, and that was pestering Hester.

“What are you grinning at?” Hester asked, casting Martha a suspicious glare.
“What’s got you in a huff, Hesty?” she asked as she turned back to the tea.
Hester walked to the oven to check on the cakes. “Did you see that….that trash that Mr. Remmington let in? If I had to guess I’d say that man is losing his mind! That girl is filthy! She is no good, I tell you,” she said as she slammed the oven door closed. “And don’t call me Hesty!”

Hmmm… I’m making guesses about just what it is “Ellie” left behind. Great job building suspense!
