Mayfield: A Saga

Her New Home

Upon entering her new room, Ellie was immediately in disbelief. This room was definitely not a servant’s room, and it was all she could do to withhold her sense of relief. The room was enormous in size; almost as large as the sitting parlor. There was a large, comfortable-looking king-size bed with a spectacular brass headboard as well as footboard. The room had a giant bureau, which Ellie was sure contained the clothing of Susanna. There were two magnificent bookcases with a variety of novels. There was even a large bay window overlooking the gardens in the front of the manor, and a luxurious couch sat against the elaborately draped windows.

Ellie's new room

Ellie’s thoughts were interrupted by Hester’s high-pitched voice. “What is the matter, Miss Brown? Is it not to your liking?” she said, every word dripping with sarcasm and malice.

“I…er…I just wasn’t expecting such grandeur,” she replied, still gathering in the enormous bedroom and all of its frivolities.

Hester walked past her and stopped in front of another large cherry-wood door. “I trust you will be comfortable here,” she said coldly, as she opened the door. “Your toiletry.” She motioned for Ellie to enter the adjoining room.

Ellie couldn’t believe her ears. “My…toiletry?” she asked in disbelief as she peered past Hester and walked through the open door and into the restroom.

Ellie's toiletry

“Your very own. I must say, I am as shocked as you are,” Hester said as she looked around at the room. “A desecration to her memory, I say,” she muttered under her breath.

Ellie dragged her gaze away from the beautifully ornate roman bathtub, and gave an inquisitive look in Hester’s direction. “I beg your pardon Miss,” she said in a quiet voice. “Who’s memory?”

  3. Yay, you’re back! I love it… and I hope that Ellie *does* give Mr. Remmington a little thrill, ha ha. He’s sweet.

  5. Wonderful job on this story! I love the decor and everything in the pictures, too. And wow, Hesty is eeevil! Or at least extremely unkind. The way you describe her behavior is great — I could feel her cackling coldness. Can’t wait to see what happens at dinner!
