Her New Home
“As if you didn’t know,” snarled Hester as she took a step closer. “You may have been able to fool dear, naive Mr. Remmington, and that fool of a woman, Martha. But rest assured, your falseties will not work on me.” Hester stood her ground as she saw a perplexed look sweep across Ellie’s face. “I know why you’re here Miss Brown. You are just like all the others.”

“All the other what?” Ellie asked, obviously not understanding.
Hester looked unconvinced. “All the other women, of course. Oh don’t play dumb with me, girl,” she growled as Ellie opened her mouth to ask another question. She strode over to the bureau. “All the women in town coming to call on young Mr. Remmington. His wife hasn’t even been in the ground a year,” she said more to herself than to Ellie, as she opened the bureau.

The sight of all the beautiful gowns hanging neatly in the bureau would normally have been enough to distract any woman’s thoughts. But Ellie was too busy trying to make sense of what Hester was saying. “Young Mr. Remmington? His wife?” Ellie finally asked. “No offense Miss, but Mr. Remmington did not strike me as young. And what exactly happened to his wife?”
Hester abruptly turned around; a look of astonishment on her face. “You have some nerve, girl! I told you…I know what your sights are set on,” she said as her face turned red with anger. But just as quickly, her anger faded and a satisfied smile crossed her lips. “Oh, but it is of no matter now. For you are too late! Mr. Remmington has already chosen the woman who is to be his new wife!” And with that, Hester threw her head back and let out a loud, shrieking cackle.

I love this story, I’m so glad you are back from moving and that everything went alright for you. I can’t wait for this story to continue.

Yay, you’re back! I love it… and I hope that Ellie *does* give Mr. Remmington a little thrill, ha ha. He’s sweet.

Wonderful job on this story! I love the decor and everything in the pictures, too. And wow, Hesty is eeevil! Or at least extremely unkind. The way you describe her behavior is great — I could feel her cackling coldness. Can’t wait to see what happens at dinner!
