Mr. Remmington’s Son
It had been so long since Ellie had been able to relax and enjoy some time in a clean bathtub with warm water and lavender-scented bubbles. She had a grand time choosing which of the many perfumed soaps she would use to wash away the dirt and grime from two weeks of living on the streets. She noticed the elaborate golden ‘R’ entwined with an equally elaborate ‘P’ on the labels of every soap bottle, and wondered what they stood for. For a moment she allowed her head to lay back and rest on the cool porcelain rim of the tub; closing her eyes and relaxing every muscle in her tired body.

She wasn’t quite sure how much time had passed since she had gotten into the bath, but as she reopened her eyes, she noticed how very dark it had grown outside. Scared that she would be late, or even worse missed dinner, Ellie rushed out of the tub and grabbed a soft, linen towel to dry herself with. Thankfully, her hair had mostly dried due to her nap time, in which she had bundled her hair up and over the rim of the tub. She noticed a dressing robe hanging from a small hook on the back of the bathroom door, and quickly pulled it on.

Walking into the now darkened bedroom, Ellie had to feel her way toward the gas lamps on the walls. One by one she lit the lamps and the very feminine bedroom was washed in a romantic glow. The room seemed even more beautiful and comfortable than it had before; which had not seemed possible to Ellie in the beginning.
She walked over and opened the bureau, and was once again overtaken by memories. There had been a time, not too long ago in fact, when her own bureau had been filled with many colorful and stylish gowns. Pushing the painful memories from her mind, Ellie fingered through the many hanging garments, trying to decide which would be most appropriate for dinner with Mr. Remmington.

Ah! What passion, yet gentleness, yet hope of romance, yet sadness you twine into your stories! I thoroughly enjoy both this and your Prosperity challenge stories, and you have me checking for updates like crazy. I wonder what Ellie’s…or should I say Elizabeth’s…past is…sounds interesting! Like I said, can’t wait till the next one…

This story is one of my favorites to read from all the blogs I’ve found so far. It’s just so wonderful. I love the time period, I like the characters and the way you are writing it, always leaving a mystery and a hopefulness, it’s very pleasant. I hope you continue this as soon as possible because I enjoy it so much.

Beautiful! I love this story. Your house is decorated so perfectly, and you make the characters look just right for the scene! Where did you find young Remmington’s suit?

Thanks for the wonderful comments everyone. I’m so glad you all like the story! I’m having so much fun writing it.
Jen - I cannot remember exactly where I got the suit. But the sites that I primarily download from are TSR, All-About-Style, mod forums, and a few others that I’m pretty sure it didn’t come from. So, my guess would be All-About-Style…if not there then probably TSR. Sorry about not remembering!
