Mayfield: A Saga

Mr. Remmington’s Son

It was rather difficult to find a suitable dress for a servant when all of Mrs. Susanna’s gowns were fancy and extravagant. So, Ellie opted for the simplest of the gowns, which still gave off a rather elegant air. The gown was not a full skirted gown with a big bustle like many of the other highly-fashionable gowns in the bureau. It was a simple, yet elegant light blue silk overskirt, with a pink waist band that fastened in the back in a small bunch. The underskirt was made of delicate pink and white lace, which shone through the sheer silken topskirt. It was short-sleeved, and even though it was winter time, Ellie knew it would be acceptable for an indoor dinner.

Ellie slipped into the delicate fabric of the gown. The smooth silk and lace felt so good against her freshly cleaned skin; much better than the rough material of the previous dress she had worn. She walked over to the tall mirror that was positioned next to the bureau, and gazed at her reflection. “Now this is the Elizabeth I remember,” she whispered to the pretty girl gazing at her from the other side of the mirror.

She immediately turned her back on the mirror and said rather forcefully, “No. I am not Elizabeth any longer. I am Ellie now; a new person and a new life.” She was finding it harder and harder to push the memories down once they surfaced. If she could only keep herself busy her mind wouldn’t find time to wander. She left the enticing image in the mirror, and walked to the bathroom, where she encountered yet another mirror. “Concentrate…Ellie,” she said to herself as she forced her mind to stay blank.

  1. Ah! What passion, yet gentleness, yet hope of romance, yet sadness you twine into your stories! I thoroughly enjoy both this and your Prosperity challenge stories, and you have me checking for updates like crazy. I wonder what Ellie’s…or should I say Elizabeth’s…past is…sounds interesting! Like I said, can’t wait till the next one…

I love the time period, I like the characters and the way you are writing it, always leaving a mystery and a hopefulness, it’s very pleasant. I hope you continue this as soon as possible because I enjoy it so much. :)

  5. Beautiful! I love this story. Your house is decorated so perfectly, and you make the characters look just right for the scene! Where did you find young Remmington’s suit?

  6. Thanks for the wonderful comments everyone. I’m so glad you all like the story! I’m having so much fun writing it.

Jen - I cannot remember exactly where I got the suit. But the sites that I primarily download from are TSR, All-About-Style, mod forums, and a few others that I’m pretty sure it didn’t come from. So, my guess would be All-About-Style…if not there then probably TSR. Sorry about not remembering!
