Mayfield: A Saga

Mr. Remmington’s Son

As soon as she reached the balcony, she heard the older Mr. Remmington say, “And there’s my little angel! How was your trip to the perfumery, Violet?” Ellie looked down just in time to see Mr. Remmington sweep a young and rather fragile little girl up into a big hug.

“It was the most wonderful time, Grandfather!” she heard the young voice exclaim as Mr. Remmington put her back on the ground. “I did not know we owned so many plants and flowers!” It suddenly dawned on Ellie that the emblem with the entwined golden ‘RP’ on all of the soap and perfume bottles stood for “Remmington Perfumeries”. She couldn’t believe she hadn’t been able to make the connection earlier. Remmington Perfumeries was the largest supplier and manufacturer of soaps, perfumes, lotions, and body goods in the northeast! And here she was, in the owner and founder’s household.

Violet tells Grandfather of the trip

“Yes Father, you should have seen Violet’s eyes when we walked out into the —,” the deep voice abruptly cut off, and his handsome face went as white as if he had seen a ghost.

He was looking up toward the staircase, and it was then that Ellie realized she had somehow made her way to the top of the stairs to get a better view. Unfortunately, this meant that the Remmingtons’ now had a clear view of her as well! And all three Remmingtons were now staring up at her.

It was little Violet who broke the silence. “Mother?” she said in a half-unbelieving, half-hoping voice.

  1. Ah! What passion, yet gentleness, yet hope of romance, yet sadness you twine into your stories! I thoroughly enjoy both this and your Prosperity challenge stories, and you have me checking for updates like crazy. I wonder what Ellie’s…or should I say Elizabeth’s…past is…sounds interesting! Like I said, can’t wait till the next one…

  2. This story is one of my favorites to read from all the blogs I’ve found so far. It’s just so wonderful. I love the time period, I like the characters and the way you are writing it, always leaving a mystery and a hopefulness, it’s very pleasant. I hope you continue this as soon as possible because I enjoy it so much. :)

  5. Beautiful! I love this story. Your house is decorated so perfectly, and you make the characters look just right for the scene! Where did you find young Remmington’s suit?

  6. Thanks for the wonderful comments everyone. I’m so glad you all like the story! I’m having so much fun writing it.

Jen - I cannot remember exactly where I got the suit. But the sites that I primarily download from are TSR, All-About-Style, mod forums, and a few others that I’m pretty sure it didn’t come from. So, my guess would be All-About-Style…if not there then probably TSR. Sorry about not remembering!
