Mr. Remmington’s Son

< -- Her New Home

This seemed to break the elderly Mr. Remmington out of his stare. “Oho Violet,” he chuckled, casting an embarrassed glance to his still frozen son. “It must have been such a long trip for such a little girl! You must be exhausted! This is Miss Brown dear,” he smiled nervously as he motioned Ellie toward them.

“But why is she dressed in Mother’s gown?” the child asked innocently as if trying to prove that Ellie was in fact her mother and not Miss Brown.

Ellie was now at the foot of the staircase standing before the Remmingtons’; her gaze locked with the handsome man before her. “Violet dear, it is well past your bedtime,” the younger Mr. Remmington said, his gaze still holding Ellie’s. “Go on up to bed. I will be up to read you a story in a bit,” he said gently, finally looking down at his daughter.

Edward sends Violet to bed.

Violet looked questioningly at her grandfather who gave her a gentle smile and a nod. She walked slowly past Ellie, looking up at her. She reached out a tiny hand and touched the silk overskirt of Ellie’s dress, then turned and ran up the stairs.

Completely confused, Ellie looked to Mr. Remmington Sr. apologetically. “I am deeply sorry, Sir, for taking you all unawares,” she said in a small voice, aware that the younger Mr. Remmington was still looking at her intently.

Ellie apologizes

“Nonsense, my child,” he answered with a wave of his hand. “Edward, I would like to introduce you to Miss Ellie Brown. I have hired her to help around the house,” he said trying to sound jovial.

“Yes, well…very pleased to meet you, Miss Brown,” Edward replied quietly with a little bow. The color was now returning to his face, but his light green eyes still did not stray away from Ellie.

  1. Ah! What passion, yet gentleness, yet hope of romance, yet sadness you twine into your stories! I thoroughly enjoy both this and your Prosperity challenge stories, and you have me checking for updates like crazy. I wonder what Ellie’s…or should I say Elizabeth’s…past is…sounds interesting! Like I said, can’t wait till the next one…

  2. This story is one of my favorites to read from all the blogs I’ve found so far. It’s just so wonderful. I love the time period, I like the characters and the way you are writing it, always leaving a mystery and a hopefulness, it’s very pleasant. I hope you continue this as soon as possible because I enjoy it so much. :)

  5. Beautiful! I love this story. Your house is decorated so perfectly, and you make the characters look just right for the scene! Where did you find young Remmington’s suit?

  6. Thanks for the wonderful comments everyone. I’m so glad you all like the story! I’m having so much fun writing it.

Jen - I cannot remember exactly where I got the suit. But the sites that I primarily download from are TSR, All-About-Style, mod forums, and a few others that I’m pretty sure it didn’t come from. So, my guess would be All-About-Style…if not there then probably TSR. Sorry about not remembering!
